7 Health Benefits of Eating Eggs (Part 2)
- Choline, an essential nutrient needed for brain development in the unborn and brain function in adults, is abundant in egg yolks.
- There aren’t many natural sources of Vitamin D, but the egg is one of them. Vitamin D helps the body to absorb calcium, which is critical for the health of bones, the colon, the heart and teeth.
- Eggs rank high on the Satiety Index which means that they fill you up. This results in less calories being eating overall and consequential weight loss. In one study, a group of overweight people, having the same calorie restrictions, were divided into two groups. One group ate two eggs for breakfast (about 150 calories) each morning while the other group had a bagel (about 150 calories’ worth). Even though the two groups ate the same number of calories for breakfast, the group who ate eggs had “61% greater reduction in BMI, 65% more weight loss, 34% greater reduction in waist circumference and 16% greater reduction in body fat” when compared to the bagel eaters. One more thing to keep in mind, “all eggs are NOT created equal.” When shopping for protein sources, the more natural the animal’s environment, the better. Stressful surroundings aren’t even good for chickens! You want to purchase eggs labeled “cage free” or “free range”. Adding some spinach, mushrooms or other Super Foods can make for a healthy and delicious breakfast … so my advice to you is to get crackin’.
